If you are not already in employment or education and live at the Cangle you will be expected to take part in some of the training and activities sessions on offer. Although the Cangle used to be a school, the Cangle's training sessions are not run in classrooms or led by teachers. They take place in a relaxed and supportive environment and are planned according to your needs and interests!

The Cangle's core training programme lasts for 12 weeks. If you follow the full programme you should, by the end of it, be ready to deal with major decisions in your life such as going on to further education and applying for a job. If you feel you are not ready to make these decisions by the end of the programme, you have the option to start again. The training each week is different, giving you the chance to explore issues that are important to you, to find out more about yourself, develop your skills and help you to gain the confidence to get out there and get what you want from life! As well as training sessions which cover health, housing and money management issues, there are a range of other activities to choose from; Sports, Crafts, Multi@rts, Photography and Cooking. You will also have the chance to gain certificates in Fire Safety, First Aid and Basic Food Hygiene.

The Cangle runs a number of activities daily for everyone who lives here. You can pick which ones to get involved in and you use the activities to boost the number of training hours you need per week.

CANGLE HISTORYThe name 'Cangle' was given by Mr.Huctchinson around 1960. He was then Head Master and found the name on an old map dated 1737. It is believed to refer to a dead end, (as Broad Street is next road up from the Cangle) and local people used to refer to Broad Street as the Cangle. The very first name of the school was the Board School from the Haverhill Board, a group of local dignitaries who build the school in 1876. DID YOU KNOW? The Cangle School Closed in 1988 The population of Haverhill in 1870 was 3,700 There were 23 pubs in Haverhill in 1870 Compared to the number of pubs in 1870 to the ratio of people, today we would need a total of 138 for the current population! Robin Miller took these pictures of his son's class in the last year of the Cangle as a school. He has given the pictures a sepia finish to make them look older as they were doing a victorian event at the time.
