Haverhill Roll of HonourCan You Help Us?
 The war memorial, erected by inhabitants of the town through public subscription, was unveiled at an “impressive ceremony” on Sunday 21st November 1920 with “nearly 5000 people present at the Cemetery”. To mark the 90th anniversary of the unveiling, the Haverhill Group of Suffolk Family History Society plan to compile a Roll of Honour, in memory of all the young men of the town who sacrificed their lives in the Great War.
We would like to find out as much as possible about their brief lives both before and after they joined up: including family, where they lived & worked, their pastimes, as well as service history. If you’ve any family stories, photographs or artefacts of those named you’d be willing to share, or if you’d like to help with the project, please contact Jeanette Key who is the project co-ordinator.
 It is hoped the information gathered will be used to mount a display at a public exhibition being organised jointly with the Haverhill & District Local History Group in October 2010. All proceeds will go to the British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Other local groups and organisations are warmly invited to take part, creating their own displays around a broad theme of Remembrance.
The Local History Group is compiling a book of letters written to Haverhill addresses by servicemen during the 1914-1918 conflict.
