SCHEDULE
CLASS 1 – “GARDEN TREASURES” (Novices only)
An exhibit staged on open tabling.
Space allowed: width 60cm, depth 65cm, height 112 cm. Background and tabling covered in navy blue fabric.
To be viewed and judged from the front.
Prizes: 1st £15, 2nd £10, 3rd £5.
CLASS 2 – “WITH A THREAD OF COLOUR RUNNING THROUGH”
An exhibit staged on open tabling 44cm from the ground.
Tabling covered in navy blue fabric. Space allowed: width 65cm, depth 50cm, height 30cm.
To be viewed all round and judged from the above.
(This class is limited to a maximum of 10 entries).
Prizes: 1st £10, 2nd £8, 3rd £5.
CLASS 3 – “BEACHCOMBER”
An Exhibit staged on open tabling.
Space allowed: width 65cm, depth 65 cm, height optional. Background and tabling covered in navy blue fabric.
To be viewed and judged from the front.
Prizes: 1st £15, 2nd £10, 3rd £5.
CLASS 4 – “THE WITCHING HOUR”
An exhibit staged on open tabling.
Space allowed: width 65 cm, depth 65cm, height optional. Background and tabling covered in navy blue fabric.
To be viewed and judged from the front.
Prizes: 1st £15, 2nd £ 10, 3rd £ 5.
CLASS 5 – “BANQUET”
A period exhibit depicting a formal dinner party in a period of your own choice, staged on individual tables measuring width 90 cm, depth 75cm, height 75cm from the ground. Height of the exhibit optional. Exhibitors to provide own table cover.
Restrained decoration of the sides and corners will be allowed.
Total space allowed depth 120cm, width 120cm.
Title card detailing period chosen must be displayed.
To be staged by up to a maximum of two people.
Background: navy blue fabric.
To be viewed and judged from the front.
Prizes: 1st £25, 2nd £20, 3rd £15.

RULES
- 1. All entries are classed as exhibits and judged in accordance with the NAFAS Competitions Manual Second Edition 2009.
- 2. The Judges’ decision will be final.
- 3. A Novice is a competitor whom has never won a FIRST in a competition judged in accordance with the NAFAS Competitions Manual.
- 4. An Intermediate is an exhibitor who has never won more than two “FIRST” in any competition judged in accordance with the NAFAS Competitions Manual.
- 5. All exhibits and exhibitor’s property will be at the risk of the exhibitor. Haverhill & District Flower Club and Haverhill Arts Centre accept NO liability whatsoever for any loss or damage sustained by any exhibitor.
- 6. Exhibits must be the unaided work of the exhibitor and must be arranged at Haverhill Arts Centre between 11:00 am and 8:45 pm on Thursday, August 16th, 2012, unless otherwise specified. Exhibits must remain on view until Saturday August 18th at 4:00 pm.
- 7. No perishable foods to be used with the exception of fresh fruit and vegetables.
- 8. Mechanics, drapes, backgrounds, etc MUST NOT be attached to the staging.
- 9. Aerosol spray cans of any description MUST NOT be used in the hall.
- 10. After judging, no exhibit must be touched by any exhibitor. During the Show all exhibits will be in the care of the stewards, who reserve the right to remove and/or replace any wilted plant material, at their discretion.
- 11. PLEASE HELP THE STEWARDS TO LOOK AFTER YOUR EXHIBIT BY NOT COMPLETELY FILLING CONTAINERS WITH FOAM AND LEAVING ADEQUATE SPACE FOR WATER. FOAM CAN DRY OUT QUICKLY ON HOT DAYS AND FRESH PLANT MATERIAL WILTS RAPIDLY, EXHIBITORS ARE THEREFORE ADVISED TO ENSURE THAT ALL PLANT MATERIAL IS IN FOAM OR WATER.
- 12. Judging will take place on Friday August 17th between 7:30 am and 10:00 am.
- 13. Public viewing will be from 1:30 to 5:00 pm on Friday and 9:30 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
- 14. Exhibits must be removed from the Hall between 4:00 and 4:30 pm on Saturday August 18th. Any exhibits not collected will be disposed of at the discretion of the organisers.
- 15. ENTRIES CLOSE AT 12 NOON ON 15 July 2012.
- 16. If there are four or less entries in any one class, the organisers reserve the right to reduce the number of prizes awarded or withdraw the class, as deemed necessary.
- 17. The organisers reserve the right to limit the number of entries in any one class.
- 18. The Awards Ceremony will take place at 3:45 pm on Saturday August 18th in the main Hall at Haverhill Arts Centre.
- 19. No artificial plant material allowed, unless otherwise specified in the schedule. (Artificial plant material is defined as realistic or fantasy plant-forms, made wholly or partly from non-plant material e.g. fabric, paper, plastic, sugar, etc. which is used as a substitute for natural plant material in an exhibit).
- 20. Class 5 is not eligible for “Best in Show” or “Runner up to Best in Show”.
- 21. All measurements given in this schedule are approximate.
AIMS OF COMPETITIVE WORK
NAFAS upholds the principles of conservation as stated in the Wild Life and Countryside Act 1981 by discouraging strongly the use of rare and protected wild plant material, preserved animals, birds, insects, coral, sea fans and pernicious/invasive plants e.g. Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed.
