Trio pedalling their way through Britain for hospice

Wednesday, 8th June 2011.

Fitness instructor Glenn Bevan and two members of Haverhill Leisure Centre gym is cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats this week to raise funds for St Nicholas Hospice.

Glenn, 27, from Sturmer, is the fitness instructor at Haverhill Leisure Centre, and along with gym members Dale Nunn, 39, of Ruffles Road, Haverhill, and Ed Campbell, 25, of Dovehouse Road, Haverhill, are cycling the 900 miles in 11 days, having started on Monday and finishing on June 17.

The three men met through the gym and wanted to challenge themselves and raise £1,000 for the hospice through sponsorship.

Glenn is no stranger to challenges. He cycled to Paris in 2008 and completed the three peaks challenge, climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in June last year.

Glenn said last week: “We wanted to challenge ourselves and have something to aim for in terms of fitness while raising money for a local charity.

“We have been training hard over the last few months both on the bikes on the road and in the gym and we will average around 90 miles a day. We are really looking forward to it.”

Land's End to John o' Groats is the traversal of the whole length of the island of Great Britain between two extremities, in the south-west and north-east. The distance by road is 874 miles (1,407 km) and takes most cyclists ten to 14 days.
