The local plan issues report is still dominating workload. But a quieter month due to holiday.

4th - Meeting about future of Town Hall Arts Centre with local professional arts manager.

10th - Local plan public meeting. Good points from local business.

12th - Borough Council Policy and Resources committee. St Edmundsbury Labour group. Including session on the future of council housing in St Edmundsbury.

13th - Community Safety Forum. Discussing the performance of the community safety plan.

17th - 23rd Holiday

25th - Suffolk County Council Access and Community Involvement Panel. Seminar on consultation.

March 2000
The new local plan process is starting and taking up a large amount of time as well as dominating many meetings. Few calls from the public this month. Helped one local business with road signs. The smell from the sewage works seems as bad as ever. Anglian Water promise the problem will be solved in a week or two.

1st - Attended Cangle Fields Residents Association. Topics included crime prevention and the local plan.

2nd - Meeting with Borough planning officers and local group over local plan.

6th - Presentation about the St Edmundsbury area to Local Government Improvement Agency.

8th - St Edmundsbury Labour group. Meeting with other labour councillors.

14th - All day at Ipswich for meeting of full county council Evening at Haverhill Town Council Finance and General Purposes committee. Discussed street lights, alley by Argos, setting up new Town Council website.

21st - Borough council personnel committee

22nd - Borough council Leisure services committee - considering setting up trust to run council services. Expressed great concerns.

27th - Haverhill Partnership - smells from sewage plant and growth of town discussed. Anglian water present.

28th - Haverhill Town Council including public forum - with speaker from Suffolk Acre on childcare in Haverhill

30th - Borough council Finance Committee

February 2000
1st - Full County Council meeting. Including the council's final decision on Standards of Fire Cover which if accepted by the Home Office will give Haverhill extra full time cover.

7th - Briefing by planning department on the Borough plan issues report.

8th - Town Council Leisure committee. Council wishes to work with residents, landowners and wildlife group to look after Orchard area in Dovehouse road.

16th - St. Edmundsbury Policy and Resources Committee. Conservatives pan to increase the council tax by 8.3%. The level recommended by council officers is 6.9%.

22nd - Suffolk County Council budget. Increase in county council share of council tax to increase by 7.26%. Increased money going to schools(£11million), Road Maintenance (£4m) public transport (£3m) and libraries and social services (£3.4).

29th - Full St. Edmundsbury meeting. Conservatives propose 8.3% increase, Labour propose 6.9% increase. Conservative motion carried after over 2 hours of debate.

Meetings and phone calls about Castle Hill school and change of headteacher dominated much of the month including two large public meetings on 14th and 15th at the Methodist church.

January 2000
11th - Full meeting of St. Edmundsbury Council. Trying to prevent cuts to grants for local groups.

17th - Haverhill Partnership. With government, voluntary and business representatives.

19th - St. Edmundsbury Council Leisure services committee. 19 staff left or leaving and cuts continue.

21st - Pensioners organise meeting over changes in bus services.

25th - Meeting with Suffolk arts officers about Wolsey theatre in Ipswich. Full meeting of Town Council including public forum and speaker from county council talking about road gritting in Haverhill.

26th - Meeting over setting up town council web site.

27th - Eastern Arts Board. Regional grants and arts issues. St. Edmundsbury Council. Development and Finance committee. Auditors report and council budget.

31st - Interviewing for Town Clerk appointment.
