By Elaine Collins on Friday, 9th February 2007.

The first significant snowfall of the winter made a fleeting appearance in the Haverhill area on Thursday 8th February. Heavy snow fell just after dawn and people across the region awoke to Dickensian scenes of dazzling white rooftops and surrounding countryside plunged into a winter wonderland.

Although snow response teams had been out in full force during the preceding evening, following a Met Office warning of severe weather conditions, further heavy snow flurries throughout the morning ensured travel remained problematic. Many local schools failed to open, public transport was seriously disrupted and Stansted Airport closed for the day.

But this first glimpse of seasonal weather was a big hit with local schoolchildren who were out with sledges, making snowmen, throwing snowballs and having the time of their lives...

The snow vanished as quickly as it came leaving just the memories and the pictures. Now watch the video carefully to see the pushbike without a rider !!!!
