Paraolympian Caroline Maclean, 37, and Issy Gower, 13, are two Haverhill residents among the 11 who will carry the Olympic torch through Haverhill in Suffolk on July 7, with seven of the other nine being from elsewhere in the UK and two coming from China.Haverhill torchbearers include Claire Scarff from Feltwell, Caroline Maclean from Haverhill and Ryan Tutthill from Bury
Others carrying the flame through Haverhill are Keren Goff, 32, from Cambridge; Ryan Tutthill, 15, from Bury St Edmunds; Claire Scarff, 44, from Thetford, Dingfeng Liang, 41, from Shenyang City; Elodie Lafosse, 17, from Colchester; Holly Lambert, 12, from Waltham Abbey; Keith Church, 45, from Banbury, Stacey Johnson, 20, from Hertfordshire, and Xiaodong Du, 42, from Daqing Heilongjiang.
Haverhill mayor Cllr Maureen Byrne visited Burton End Primary School in Haverhill this morning (Monday, March 19) to launch the route through the town, which starts from the school, with some ot its pupils.
Cllr Byrne said: "I think it is going to be tremendous and I am sure our community is going to be out on the streets and so proud that the torch is coming through Haverhill. It is going to put our town on the map as a great place to live and work. It also gives our business community a great opportunity to promote themselves."
Faye Tussler, head teacher at Burton End, said: "We are very excited about it. We will be opening the school on the Saturday and our staff are very enthusiastic and have already volunteered to come in. I think it is very inspiring and a once in a lifetime opportunity for the children."
