'Free' day at leisure centre as part of birthday

Wednesday, 14th April 2010.

Abbeycroft Leisure will thank the people of Haverhill and surrounding area for their support when it celebrates its fifth birthday with an open day at Haverhill Leisure Centre.

The open day, on Sunday, April 25, will also raise funds for St Nicholas Hospice.

Visitors to the Leisure Centre will be able to use all the facilities for free including swimming, badminton, squash, Kid City and Tots Town, and the health suite, which features a sauna and steam room, when they make a minimum donation of £1 for St Nicholas Hospice.

For one day only the centre will also be waiving its joining fee for the gym.

The event includes all facilities except for the gym and the sunbeds where a full induction is needed for health and safety reasons. Badminton and squash courts must be booked in advance of the day.

Warren Smyth, chief executive of Abbeycroft Leisure which operates Haverhill Leisure Centre, said: “This is just one of the many ways we are giving back to the community to celebrate our 5th birthday.

"By opening the centre for a pound we give the local community a chance to try facilities they may not have used before and we help support the vital work of St Nicholas Hospice.”

Abbeycroft Leisure was established in 2005 as a charitable leisure trust and independent, registered company, limited by guarantee.

It manages both Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centres in partnership with St Edmundsbury Borough Council. Abbeycroft also delivers much of the sports development and outreach work in the borough.
