'Huge' increase in satnav thefts from vehicles

Monday, 1st August 2011.

A spate of satnav thefts from vehicles in Haverhill has grown so great that police have turned to leaving notes on cars and vans where they see them on display.

The town has suffered a major increase in the crime over the last couple of weeks and police are urging people to take greater care to defeat the thieves.

PCSO Debbie Carroll-Beer said police were putting notices on the windscreens of vehicles in which they could see items which might tempt thieves.

The note says that the vehicle has been seen p[arked in a certyain area and that police copuld clearly see a stanav or phone on display.

It encourages the owners to remove all personal and valuable belongings from the vcehicle.

PCSO Carroll-Beer said there had been a 'huge' increase in such incidents over recent weeks, all over town, involving all kinds of vehicles, often with windows being smashed.
