Academy shows its green credentials

Tuesday, 16th September 2014.

Castle Manor Academy opened its doors to the community as part of the Explore Green Suffolk Event.

Students from the academy’s eco committee greeted visitors as they came to visit the academy’s gardens.

Castle Manor Academy was recognised this year as Suffolk's Greenest School following its work around the site to encourage wildlife and engage students in various ways.

Local head teachers, parents and preschool children were keen to explore the various outdoor spaces including a newly-restored orchard, kitchen garden and sensory garden.

Visitors were impressed by the green initiatives in place at the academy, which involve the students in recycling, horticulture, animal care and creating areas for wildlife.

Currently there are 16 students on the academy’s eco committee and 40 eco reps who engage their enthusiasm and efforts to encourage all school members to be a little greener and make a positive impact on academy life.

You can visit Castle Manor Academy, including the outside areas during their Open Evening on September 25, 5pm to 7pm. You are also welcome to contact the academy to organize a visit during the school day. Telephone 01440 705501.
