Academy takes third in business competition

Thursday, 13th June 2013.

Students from Castle Manor Academy attended the gala final of the Talent Business Competition on Monday, and came away with third place.

Four students from the academy attended the event at the Lord Ashcroft International Business School at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

The team consisted of Tom Drayson, Seb Hammond, Dawid Kierkowski and Grace Lawrence, who battled it out in the grand final.

Finalists were chosen from 420 entered teams, based on their written submission on a case study.

All teams were assessed throughout the day using interviews with panels of entrepreneurs, together with a final presentation. After a buffet, final presentations were awarded.

Seb Hammond received a special award as the 'outstanding student in the competition'.

The top prize was £1,000 for the winning team. Castle Manor Academy came third overall, with a West Herts College team from Watford taking the top winners award.

Grace Lawrence was buoyant after returning from the event, saying: “It was a fantastic experience and really allowed us to work in a different way.

"We enjoyed visiting the university and thinking about the world of business and our future.”

The event proved to be a great experience for all participants, which will add to the wide variety of experience they all have going into to year 11.
