Affordable Housing Information Day

Sunday, 6th January 2008.

People looking to get onto the first step of the housing ladder are being offered up to the minute advice and options at the St Edmundsbury Affordable Housing Day from 10am to 6pm on Wednesday 16 January at the Athenaeum, Bury St Edmunds.

Advice on all the stages of low cost, shared equity home ownership will be available from a team of staff with housing expertise from St Edmundsbury, Suffolk Acre and Key Homes East (the local agent for low cost home ownership) as well as organisations who provide low cost rented homes (registered social landlords) and local mortgage advisers..

Last year’s event proved such a success that this year it has been expanded to include more agencies, and the hours have been extended to allow people to get along after work.

The new Home-Link scheme for affordable rented housing, due to be launched in February, will be demonstrated. Staff will be available to answer questions about how housing register applicants are prioritised and how properties are advertised.

Cllr Sara Mildmay-White, St Edmundsbury's Cabinet member responsible for housing, said,
“We are working on a broad front to offer as many options as possible to people wanting to move into their own home. The more information and advice we can pass on, the closer we can get to meeting their needs. The feedback from events such as these is also invaluable in helping us, and our partners, to understanding and tackle the issues people face. I would encourage people to come along to the affordable housing day – it will be time well spent.”
