Bell pub rings up top national award

Thursday, 22nd March 2001.

A HAVERHILL pub has been voted the best Business Development Pub of the Year.
The Bell Pub, in High Street, is run by Mark and Anna Louise Inman, who have only been there for about 16 months.
In October it underwent a £300,000 refurbishment which doubled the size of the pub and trebled the takings.
The pub was one of the top three candidates in November, but has only just been awarded the gold prize.
The Inmans attended the award ceremony at the Landmark Hotel, in London, last week.
The award, which was organised by the Morning Advertiser, a fortnightly trade publication, is based on several criteria.
These include business planning and initiative, improvements in sales, customer services and operation standard.
Anna Louise said: "We were absolutely ecstatic to win this award. Receiving the gold award was very unexpected, especially considering the outstanding competition.
"The Bell has become so popular there are queues up the High Street to get in at the weekend. We are proud of how much we have achieved in a short time."
The Bell serves morning coffee from 9am and has a late licence until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
The late licence is on a six-month trial and is up for renewal in May.
Mark said there had been no complaints so far and he expected to be allowed to continue the late night weekend sessions.
