Big bird's bid to find new nest

Thursday, 3rd February 2000.

A SIX-FOOT high, 10-foot-long chicken is looking for a new home after being told to fly the coop.
The big fowl has been in residence at the council's headquarters Bevan House, Camps Road, since 1993, when it was made in workshops at the Haverhill Festival.
Now, councillors on Haverhill Town Council have voted to give the bird the boot as they plan to redecorate their meeting room.
Town Mayor Angela Millar reckons the chicken needs a new place to roost.
"The chicken has been witness to many interesting meetings and has played a part in the art, yoga, first aid and rock groups that meet in the room.
"It would be lovely to see it decorating the walls of a school or community venue rather than having to dispose of it humanely," Coun Millar said.
Anybody interested in offering the chicken a home should contact Haverhill Town Council, Bevan House, Camps Road, Haverhill, Suffolk CB9 8HF.
