Boy arrested after injured woman's rape claim

Monday, 19th December 2011.

A 17-year-old boy, arrested on suspicion of rape following an incident in Haverhill at the weekend, has been released on police bail.

Police were called by the ambulance service at 12.05am on Saturday morning, to Queen Street, where they were treating an injured 23-year-old woman.

She then reported being raped at Murton Slade earlier in the evening.

A 17-year-old boy from the Halstead area of Essex was arrested on suspicion of rape and questioned before being released on police bail. He must return to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on 29 February 2012.

Officers want to speak to anyone who may have seen the woman between Murton Slade and Queen Street between 11pm on Friday night and 12.05am on Saturday morning.

The woman, who does not come from Haverhill, is believed to have met the boy at an address in Haverhill earlier in the evening.
