Brown bins to be emptied for last time under current scheme

Monday, 14th March 2016.

Unless you have signed up for the new Garden Waste Collection Service, your brown bin will be emptied for the last time in the next fortnight.

The last cycle of brown bin emptying under the current kitchen and garden waste scheme takes place from Monday 21 March through to Saturday 2 April.

Bins will still be emptied on Good Friday. Due to the bank holiday on Easter Monday all bin emptying during the week of 28 March will be one day late, with bin crews working Saturday 2 April. From 4 April bin days will return to normal.

Residents who are signing up for the new Garden Waste Collection Service are reminded that after their bins have been emptied during the next two weeks, only garden waste can go in their brown bin.

All Garden Waste Collection Service subscribers need to do is to mark their bin clearly with their house number and make sure it is out by 6.30am on collection day. Our bin crews with have the information as to who has signed up and who doesn’t want their garden waste collected.

It is not too late to sign up for the new service. Visit http://www.westsuffolk.gov.uk/gardenwaste or call 01638 719119 or 01284 776119. Alternatively email customer.services@westsuffolk.gov.uk

People living in and around Bury St Edmunds should receive information on their bins this week (14 March) to remind them of the change and to tell them about what they can put in their bin if they sign up to the new service.

The same information was placed on bins in Haverhill and the surrounding area last week, as well on bins at households across Forest Heath.

All West Suffolk households will receive details of home composting offers at the start of April.

Meanwhile it is estimated households can save £60 a month by reducing the amount of food they throw away. For great ideas on how to reduce food waste including some fantastic recipe ideas visit www.lovefoodhatewaste.com
