Bullseye for Allen

Thursday, 28th September 2000.

Making dartboards for a quarter of a century has been a labour of love for Allen Garner, a keen player who has reached superleague and county level.
Mr. Garner, 46, is now a transport organiser for Winmau Dartboards of Homefield Road, Haverhill, after working his way up through the firm.
This week chairman David Starr and managing director Frank Bilotta presented Mr. Garner with a gold chain to mark his 25 years of service.
Winmau is the country’s leading dartboard manufacturer and has been based in Haverhill for 27 years, making Mr. Garner one of its longest serving employees.
Mr. Garner has lived in Haverhill for most of his life and has been married to Gill for 26 years. They have three children, Mark, 25, Glen, 23, and Debbie, 22.
Mr. Garner has been playing darts for the past 28 years, starting in local pub leagues and going on to play superleague games and represent Suffolk.
He is also a keen breeder of Gloucester canaries, showing them around the world and acting as an international judge.
