Burglar barged his way into pensioner's home

Monday, 19th March 2012.

Police are offering anti-burglary advice to elderly people after a pensioner was robbed of £40 by a man who barged his way into her home.

The incident occurred between 5.50pm and 6pm on Saturday at an address in Old Clements Lane, Haverhill.

A man, described as white, aged 18 to 19 and wearing dark clothing, knocked on the elderly woman's door and asked to use the phone as his grandmother was ill.

When the woman declined, the man barged through the door and entered the house, picking up a purse from a work surface and then ran from the scene. The purse contained around £40 cash.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC James Cassedy, quoting crime number HH/12/610, on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

If any elderly people need police advice on home security they can contact Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team by calling 01473 613500.
