Cake maker helps out Children in Need

Wednesday, 29th November 2000.

CAKE maker Dee Carter has escaped from the kitchen recently to hand over her creations to celebrities Stephen Saunders and pantomime star Christopher Biggins.
Mrs Carter has been creating cakes in every shape and size from her workshop just outside Haverhill for several years. She now makes all the cakes for weddings catered for by celebrity chef Stephen Saunders at his Sheen Mill restuarant in Melbourn.
On Children in Need night she was dragged in front of television cameras by Stephen Saunders when they made a special Pudsey cake together. The cake was auctioned as part of a prize which included a stay at Sheen Mill and was taken to the studio by BBC presenter Amanda Goodman.
She also created a special Jack and the Beanstalk cake for Arts Theatre pantomime star Christopher Biggins when he opened the new Acorn House unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital.
The new unit will accommodate up to nine families whose children are being treated for cancer.
CAPTION: Taking the cake... pantomime star Christopher Biggins, who us appearing in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Arts Theatre in Cambridge this year, recieves a special cake from Dee Carter.
