Castle are the county champs

Thursday, 6th January 2000.

CASTLE Manor Upper School's under-16 football team are Suffolk Schools Champions after beating holders Stowupland High School in a tough game.
The match was played at Long Melford, with Haverhill looking underdogs in their first season together up against the champions for the last two years.
However, the Haverhill side dug in to win 2-1 with a fine individual goal from Fiona Austin and a headed goal by Anna Page from a Charlie Roach free kick.
Jackie Williams, a Castle Manor PE teacher, said the team had done really well and were supported by enthusiastic parents as well as several other teachers.
They now go on to the first round of the English Schools competition where they play the Middlesex champions.
Although it is the first time Castle Manor have entered the competition, nine of the girls play together in the Haverhill Rovers team and five of them play for Suffolk.

PICTURE CAPTION: CHAMPIONS . . . the Castle Manor girls celebrate. Their squad included: Aimee Rawlings, Anna Page, Charlotte Halls, Sam Lovell, Katie Archer, Stacey Spiers, Charley Roach, Amie Carr, Fiona Austin, Clare Skinner, Zoe Klimcke, and Sarah Walford.
