Centre's courses help jobless man back to work

Wednesday, 2nd December 2009.

Free courses at West Suffolk College’s Haverhill LEAP Centre have helped a local unemployed man get back to work.

Kevin Rawlings completed a number of courses at the Haverhill centre where he achieved certificates in numeracy, literacy and IT.

Kevin, pictured, had recently become unemployed. As well as gaining new qualifications, he was given advice and guidance on career change from centre staff, help with his CV and assistance with on-line job searching.

He has since found employment and is putting his new found skills to good use.

Flexible IT workshops enable learners to work at their own pace as they learn about word processing, spreadsheets, Internet and e-mail. Courses are aimed at beginners, intermediate or advanced learners.

The workshops are informal, with a facilitator to offer support and help. Accreditation is given on successful completion of CLAIT and CLAITPLUS courses if required.

The LEAP Centres, in Haverhill, Mildenhall, Stowmarket and Sudbury, supply information on all West Suffolk College and University Campus Suffolk courses - not just adult education.

Advice and guidance, funded learning for the unemployed (subject to eligibility), help with CV writing and impartial advice on all learning opportunities is available.
