Chance to comment on Vision 2031 begins next week

Monday, 10th June 2013.

The final round of consultation for Vision 2031, the local plan which will provide a framework for the expected growth in St Edmundsbury over the next 20 years, begins on June 18.

During an eight-week consultation, people will have the chance to comment on whether Vision 2031 complies with various legal criteria and has been properly prepared.

There are separate plans for Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill and the rural areas. Each contains details of where homes can be built and what services and infrastructure will be needed to support peoples’ lives, including schools, roads, transport, space for businesses, healthcare, leisure facilities and shops.

A series of drop-in sessions will be held in July where people can find out more about the Vision 2031 plans, which have been revised following extensive consultation last spring.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council leader, Cllr John Griffiths, said: “Following extensive consultation and research, we have now prepared the final draft of our Vision 2031 documents which set out a comprehensive plan to guide how the borough will manage change over the coming years.

"The final drafts balance the need to protect the wonderful environment, heritage and way of life we have here alongside the right kind of desirable development to ensure our future prosperity between now and 2031.

"I would like to thank everyone who has been involved so far in this long process and encourage people to look at the documents and take part in this latest consultation.”

The open events in Haverhill is at Haverhill Library (meeting room) in Camps Road on Saturday, July 20, 10am-3.30pm.

From next week, people can also comment through St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s online consultation system or send in their comments.

The deadline is August 9. All comments will be sent to the Government’s planning inspector later this year, who will decide if any changes are needed.

Details about how to take part, together with background information and factsheets, are on the St Edmundsbury Borough Council website: www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk/vision2031

A recently elected Suffolk county councillor for Haverhill, Tony Brown, has launched a petition against the Vision 2031 Haverhill document, saying it needs to be re-thought and improved.
