Charity ball will raise cash for air ambulance

Wednesday, 13th January 2010.

Two women are organising a ball in April to raise funds for an air ambulance service as part of their work for less recognised charities.

Tracy Payne, of Preview Property Services in Haverhill, and Linda Hilton last year raised over £2,000 with a charity ball in aid of motor neurone disease.

This year they are organising another charity ball at Chilford Hall, Linton, in aid of East Anglian Air Ambulance.

The women set up Fundraising Occasions, a non-profitmaking organisation, in 2008, specifically to raise money for charities which receive no Government funding.

Tracy said: "We picked motor neurone as our first venture as I had lost family and friends to this awful disease. Then this year we have picked EAAA as, again, they receive no government funding and any one of us could need them."

The EAAA operates a 365-day life-saving air ambulance service across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

It is entirely dependent on fund raising and contributions from members of the public as it receives no direct government or National Lottery funding.

It costs £3 million per year to keep the charity’s two air ambulances flying, to provide the required ancillary operations and to supply the advanced clinical equipment they carry.

Anglia One serves Norfolk and Suffolk and Anglia Two serves Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

This year's ball is on Saturday, April 17, and tickets are available from Tracy or Linda at £45 each to include a three-course meal and entertainment from Superstition, an eight-piece band playing a broad range of dance music from swing, latin, through to the Rat-Pack era, rock'n'roll, soul motown, 70's disco and beyond, touring all over the country playing for corporate functions, balls and weddings.

The band features players with a wide range of experience currently playing in West End theatres, touring shows and from cruise ships such as the QE2 and Oriana.

They have appeared with artists such as Toyah, Katrina and the Waves, Martine McCutcheon, Shane Ritchie, Bobby Davro, Bradley Walsh etc, and recordings for the BBC.

The event runs from 6.30pm to 1am and promises to be a great evening, with dancing, an auction and a raffle, the prime aim being to have fun while raising funds.

Contact Tracy or Linda on 01440 714219 or 07967 001520, or by email info@fundraisingoccasions.co.uk, to receive full details and a booking form.
