Charity boost from discos run by couple

Thursday, 4th January 2001.

CHARITIES across the region have benefited from a fun loving couple this year.
Marian and Gerry Harrison, of Forties Close, have raised around £2,000 in a series of "boogie nights."
The most recent event at Castle Manor Upper School in Haverhill raised £780 for the Red Cross, St John Ambulance and the Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge.
Mrs Harrison presented audio equipment, televisions and a video to residents at the Arthur Rank Hospice.
She said: "I was going to send money off to the charities but then it dawned on me that it might be better to buy things they actually needed.
The couple have also bought a skeleton for the Red Cross and a pulse meter for St John Ambulance.
Sarah Mercer, clinical practise sister at Arthur Rank Hospice, said: "The equipment will be an invaluable addition to improving the quality of our patients' days.
"The charity relies heavily on the generosity of community gifts like these."
The Harrison's next disco will be held on January 6 at the Leiston Community Centre, Leiston Road, Haverhill.
Tickets cost £10 for over 18s, including food and drink. To book contact (01440) 708343
