Children’s Festival in Haverhill and Bury

Monday, 3rd August 2009.

Children in St Edmundsbury are invited to their own fantastic free summer festival, being held for the first time this August. Open from 10am to 4pm, the event is being held on Wednesday 13 August at the Recreation Ground in Haverhill and a day earlier on 12 August in the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds.

Although it is aimed at eight to 13 year olds, there are lots of activities for younger and older people, including parents. These include workshops for DJs, circus skills, capeoira, junk funk, belly dancing, lots of arts and crafts activities, Poz the magician and the usual face painting and bouncy castle.....and it's all free.

Cllr Lynsey Alexander, St Edmundsbury Borough Council Cabinet member for Culture and Sport said,
“It is a great day out with loads of new things to try out. We have secured £20,000 a year for three years through Partners in Play Lottery funding to run this event, aimed at raising the profile of play and at increasing the opportunities for play in the borough. We are running the event in two locations to allow as many people as possible to come along. We hope that the children who come will enjoy it so much they will come back every year”

St Edmundsbury Children’s Festival sponsors include Abbeycroft Leisure and Lego, who have provided specialist Lego tables. For more information, please contact Michelle Newbury on 01284 757062, visit website below or email address below.
