Christmas Day attack on good samaritan

Wednesday, 30th December 2009.

A man who retrieved a house Christmas decoration from a group of youths and returned it to its owner ended up being assaulted by four men late on Christmas Day.

The man was assaulted at around 10.30pm on a green area in Queensway, Haverhill, but managed to run off towards Vetch Walk, and police would like to speak to two teenage girls who may have seen what happened.

William Wright of Teasel Close had seen some youths playing with a giant snowman decoration from a nearby house, which he retrieved for the owner, and also helped her take her dog inside.

He continued walking and was followed by four men who shouted at him before threatening and attacking him. He managed to push through them and run away, but suffered a cut to the head.

The first man is described as white, in his mid teens, around 5ft 9in, of slim build with short black spiked hair and was wearing a black weatherproof jacket.

The second man is described as white, in his mid teens, around 5ft 8in, of slim build with short black hair and was wearing a black jacket and a grey hooded top.

The third male is described as white, around 6ft and was wearing a black woolen hat, a white jacket with stripes and a purple scarf.

The fourth male is described as white, in his mid teens, between 5ft 4in and 5ft 6in, of slim build and was wearing a blue woolen hat and a blue jacket.

Two teenage girls wewre seen nearby and police would like to talk to them as they may hold information which could assist the investigation.

The first is described as white, in her mid teens, between 5ft 4 and 5ft 6in, of slim build with long black hair and was wearing a knee length coat and a purple scarf.

The second is described as white, in her mid teens and of slim build.
