Church fayre and flower display raises £800

Tuesday, 2nd July 2013.

St Felix Catholic Church summer fayre, held on Saturday was a great success with the sun shining and with the church and Haverhill and District Flower Club raising more than £800, to be shared equally.

The deputy town mayor Cllr Maureen Byrne opened the fayre bringing best wishes from the town council, a major donor towards the cost for landscaping and car parking for the new church.

She thanked the committee and the organisers, stall holders and the flower club for their support to raise funds to pay off the new church loan and asked everyone "dig deep, and let’s get this loan paid off".

Cllr Byrne said: “I am delighted that the new church and grounds opened up the location for residents and visitors, and I hope that it will feel more inclusive, with more people getting involved in these local activities."

The highlight of the fayre was a raffle by St Felix church, with prizes totalling more than £400, due mainly to Ron Hefford’s sales drive.

The town mayor, Cllr Roger Andre, who attended with his wife Pauline, later drew the names of the lucky winners of seven prizes.

Two winners offered their prizes for auction which fetched £15 for a bottle of champagne and, after a fierce battle between two bidders, the fine bottle of brandy ended up at £40.

After the auction, Cllr Byrne announced the next event in the church fund raising calendar – an evening of entertainment and food from Kerala, India, being organised by parishioners, to be held at St Felix School hall on Saturday at 7.15pm.

Tickets for the evening can be obtained from Tina Hanks via email from stfelixchurchhaverhill@gmail.com and are priced at £12 for adults and £7 for five to 12 year olds, under fives free. Alternatively telephone the parish office on 01440 702754.
