Churchgoers mark Good Friday with town procession

Tuesday, 22nd April 2014.

On Good Friday morning, Christians from churches in Haverhill, Kedington and Steeple Bumpstead gathered together for worship as they remembered the Biblical events of that day.

The morning started with a service at the West End Congregational Church, led by the Rev Leslie Shorten.

Those who had packed out the church then walked down to the market square where there was a traditional Good Friday parade, carrying of the cross and some rousing singing.

On a sunny but bitterly cold morning, everyone was pleased to warm up in St Mary’s afterwards, where drinks and hot cross buns were served.

Haverhill Methodist minister the Rev Nigel Bishop said it was great to see so many people of all ages getting together to remember what Easter was really about.

This is the first of a number of community events being organised by local churches during the coming weeks.
