Cogger super strike seals it

Thursday, 1st November 2001.

HAVERHILL Rovers kept up their excellent progress at the top of the Jewson League Division One at the weekend.

Neil Cogger's 72nd minute effort was enough to seal the points for Haverhill in a 1-0 win over Stanway at Hamlet Croft.

Rovers were helped when Stanway keeper Nathan Munson pulled his hamstring making a clearance on 57 minutes and was replaced by an outfield player.

But Cogger's magnificent goal would have tested the best of stoppers.

After rounding two defenders, he cut inside and struck a shot from 20 yards which took a wicked deflection and left the stand-in keeper helpless.
Spokesman Steven Esdale said: "It was a very even contest, but Haverhill just about deserved the three points."

Haverhill are now in fifth spot, six adrift of leaders Histon reserves. But they do have a game in hand on some of their rivals which could catapult them into third place if they do business.

This weekend Rovers will hope to collect three points at struggling March currently propping up the table.
