Con man tricked staff in two stores

Thursday, 29th October 2009.

Police have issued this CCTV image of a man they want to trace in connection with two fraud offences in shops in Haverhill High Street three weeks ago.

The offences happened between 12.45pm and 12.55pm on Thursday, October 8.

A man went into a clothes shop and asked for change. He confused the assistant and managed to leave with more money than he started with. Five minutes later a man went into a newsagent and did the same thing.

In the first instance the man was described as white, in his late 40s, 6ft tall, with receding short brown hair, and he was wearing a dark-coloured top. He spoke with a local accent.

On the second occasion the man was described as white, in his late 30s or early 40s, of slim buold, 6ft tall, with short brown hair and was wearing a zipped-up tan sweatshirt. He spoke with a northern accent.

Anyone who can help police track him down can call PC Dan Steel at Haverhill Police on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
