Crown Court clears three

Saturday, 6th July 2002.

THREE men have been cleared of robbing a Haverhill man at knifepoint.

Robert Doran, 33, and Richard Jackson, 22, formerly of Shaftesbury Court, Haverhill, walked free from Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday after being acquitted.

But the third acquitted man, a 44-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody on other matters.

All three defendants have been in custody for the past eight months, following the alleged robbery of Haverhill man Zachary King in November last year.

The third man was also on trial in respect of a charge of having a bladed or pointed article, in this case a knife. The court was told this was found in his possession by police carrying out a search, following the robbery allegation. The jury convicted him on the knife charge. Sentence was postponed, pending the conclusion of other matters.

During the robbery trial, the alleged victim, Mr King, said he was robbed of £200 cash.

He said knew Jackson and Doran "quite well" and said he had supplied them with heroin.
