Suffolk Sinfonia Concert
Stories of sadness underlie the lively music of the Suffolk Sinfonia’s Autumn outing. The centrepiece is the glorious piano concerto from Robert Schumann, who struggled with depression for all of his life. Beethoven’s Egmont overture tells the story of a martyr celebrated in Goethe’s poetry, and the programme is completed with Schubert’s 5th symphony - the Tragic. No need to bring a handkerchief though; the stories are sad, the music is uplifting.

This superb vibraphonist crafted a winning mix of soul, world music and jazz that rode high on the jazz and R&B charts throughout the ‘70s and '80s, gradually becoming an uptown pop staple of disco-era black America. He is now considered a pioneer of Britain's acid jazz movement & his work is widely sampled by American hip-hop producers.
