Family Searching For Lost Dog Charlie

Thursday, 19th February 2004.

A FAMILY is offering a substantial reward for the return of their rare Chinese dog - which is the same breed as the one just bought by celebrity couple Posh and Becks.

Charlie, a four-year-old Sharpei, ran off soon after he had been brought home from Jaybeth Animal Shelter.

He had been at the sanctuary after being ill-treated by his previous owners.

Mikala Young, of Hazel Close, Haverhill, had only just brought Charlie from the sanctuary and was visiting friends in Cambridge Way when the dog ran off.

Mrs Young and her son Kieran, aged two, have spent the weekend searching for Charlie, who was last seen in the Forest Glade area. Her stepdaughters Keonie, 12, Chantelle, 11, and Taylor, eight, started their half-term break by distributing posters around the town asking people to help find Charlie.

Mrs Young said Charlie had been seen running on the by-pass on Saturday and she believed he may have been injured.

"l am really upset, I have been out all weekend looking for him. He is very placid, he won't bite and he won't even bark or growl. He is a friendly dog and if anyone sees him they can grab him and hold him until we get there. We just want him home," Mrs Young said.

David and Victoria Beckham are reported to have paid £600 for their three-month-old Sharpei pup Carlos from a Madrid pet shop.

Carlos has become a big hit with the couple's sons Brooklyn, four, and Romeo, one.

Sharpei's are said to be renowned as devoted companions and children's playmates.

Anyone who has information about Charlie should ring (01440) 710139.
