Firm reaches its quarter-millennium of trading

Monday, 12th July 2010.

This week marks an astonishing milestone for Haverhill's longest-established business.

Although it has only been based in Haverhill since 1968, Herberts was actually founded in 1760, and is celebrating 250 years of trading.

The company, formed before the creation of the USA and which has witnessed 41 different prime ministers since it started trading in London.

The British-owned company is a manufacturer and distributor of innovative technological products to the retail, healthcare and commercial sectors.

The company has continued to prosper by always demonstrating its ability to be innovative and dynamic. It is these qualities which ensure that a Suffolk-based company enjoys strategic partnerships with a host of international companies.

The group’s outstanding reputation for successfully delivering technological solutions means that it can count Tesco, Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury among its long-standing list of satisfied blue-chip customers.

The group also supplies expert project management and technical support to a diverse range of businesses across the UK.

Richard Herbert, the executive chairman of Herbert Group Limited said: "In the group we are all extremely proud of our industrial heritage, and so were keen to mark the passing of the 250-year milestone.

"But we remain very focused on our current customers and their future needs, and are constantly seeking out new products and new markets."

This legacy of innovation and championing of new technology can be traced back to the company’s foundation in 1760 and remains as strong today as it did back then at the very beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

The group will be marking this significant anniversary with a number of events over the year.

One such event will be a celebratory lunch and exhibition for past employees and friends of the company at The White Hart in Great Yeldham this Friday, July 16, where the speaker will be former Haverhill MP Sir Eldon Griffiths.
