First anniversary finds boiler care business booming

Friday, 15th October 2010.

Many businesses have struggled in the recession this year but for one Haverhill firm business is booming.

UK Boilercare, founded by heating engineer Sean Whiting of Goldstar Heating and Plumbing, which has a showroom in Queens Square, Haverhill, celebrates its first birthday this month.

In just one year the business has been so successful that Sean has been able to take on two additional engineers and has expanded to open a branch in Harlow, Essex.

Sean believes that UK Boilercare, which offers boiler maintenance cover schemes, appeals to customers because in the current economic climate customers are willing to pay a set fee each month to protect themselves against unexpected major costs.

The company estimates that people on the scheme have so far saved hundreds of pounds in call-out fees, repairs and parts.

Sean, who also celebrated the tenth anniversary of Goldstar Heating and Plumbing this year, spent ten years as a British Gas engineer before he started his own business.

In 2004 he won the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering’s Suffolk’s Favourite Plumber Award in 2004 and was one of six plumbers across the UK to make it to the finals of Britain's Favourite Plumber Awards.

He said: “I wanted to set up UK Boilercare because, having been a heating engineer for 20 years, I see the sheer frustration customers have when something suddenly and unexpectedly goes wrong with their boiler.

“Households are struggling at the moment but people realise that if you spend a little money each month it will protect you from those unexpected problems in the future which usually come when money is at a premium. We have also been very popular with landlords who want annual safety certification.”
