Food bank gets a boost from Tesco

Wednesday, 25th November 2009.

Haverhill Food Bank has received a generous donation from the town’s Tesco superstore.

Manager Henry Wilson and some volunteers recently visited the store to collect their £1,000 in Tesco gift cards from the store’s community Champion, Claire Bowden.

Claire said: “Haverhill Food Bank is such a fantastic cause with a great community spirit, I am thrilled that the store can make such a great contribution to it, especially in the run-up to Christmas.”

Henry said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this fantastic donation from Tesco. The money will help us to purchase the essential extras, such as nappies, toilet rolls, washing powder, shampoo and other such items.

“I would also like to thank the Tesco shoppers who made such generous donations to our appeal - we collected 210kg of food while at the store last weekend. All the items donated by customers and purchased with the Tesco gift cards will help out local families in need.”

If anyone else would like to donate to Haverhill Food Bank at any time, items can be dropped off at Next Door coffee shop, Camps Road, Haverhill between 10am and 2pm weekdays, and 10.30am-12.30pm on a Saturday.
