Free car parking scheme expanded up to Christmas

Tuesday, 2nd December 2014.

Free from 3 parking will be available every day from December 12 to 24 as part of a pilot scheme in Haverhill.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council, which operates the town’s car parks, already runs a free from 3 parking scheme on Fridays. From next Friday (12th) it will be extended to include every day up until Christmas.

Cllr Alaric Pugh, St Edmundsbury cabinet member for economic growth said: “We are keen to support local retailers at this busy time of year. We want people to shop locally and support trade in their town, rather than spending all of their money elsewhere.

“We have had discussions with the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce and we are very pleased to announce this free parking pilot scheme in the run up to Christmas.”

Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Paul Donno said: “The chamber welcomes this pilot scheme which will offer free parking in the town, every day after 3pm starting from next Friday.

“St Edmundsbury is showing its support to local trade by running this pilot scheme – what we now need is the people of Haverhill and the surrounding villages to take full advantage of it, to back the town’s shops and businesses, to put cash into the tills, so that we all have a very merry Christmas.”

The free from 3 offer will apply to the Ehringshausen Way, Lower Down Slade, Town Hall, Leisure Centre, and Meadows car parks.
