Free conference about sustainable refurbishment of housing

Friday, 18th March 2011.

Anyone involved in the refurbishment of housing can take advantage of a free conference at West Suffolk College about sustainability next month.

If the UK is to meet its carbon reduction commitments, prevent rising levels of fuel poverty and deliver improvements to the country’s housing stock then the pace of sustainable housing refurbishment must dramatically increase.

A free, one-day conference at the college in Bury St Edmunds, during EU Sustainable Energy Week 2011 offers the chance to explore innovative and creative solutions to this challenge.

The Retrofit Challenge, a conference part-funded by 'Build with CaRe', a low-energy construction project funded by the North Sea Region Interreg fund of the EU, will take place on Thursday, April 14.

Attendance is free to delegates as the cost of the event is sponsored by Build with CaRe. To book a place, contact Nigel Cole on 01284 716390 or e-mail bwc@wsc.ac.uk

The conference is aimed at architects, designers, clients, housing associations, developers, contractors and professionals within the construction industry.

Delegates will be able to attend workshops on Thermographic Building Surveys, Microgeneration and Passive House Standards as well as hearing from a variety of expert speakers on topics like mass refurbishment, social housing projects and government incentives offered by Green Deal and the Renewable Heat Incentive.

Some of the oldest properties in Europe are to be found in the UK and they may be the single biggest contributor to the country’s CO2 emissions.

Homes have evolved through a wide range of build methods. Reaching the target 80 per cent carbon reduction will be an enormous challenge.
