Haverhill's art gallery has a new show on for the run-up to Christmas.

The 1st Floor Fine Art Gallery in LOwer Downs Slade is presenting its new autumn and winter show from now until Christmas Eve.

The show promises an eclectic and stimulating selection of works from some of the best artists in the region, together with specially selected national artists.

Among them are Jonathan Newey, Christine McKechnie and Jill Hodgson (GRH).

Jonathan Newey is an award-winning artist who lives and works in Reading. He has extensive experience in art and design having studied typographic design at The London College of Printing and has been an art tutor in adult education for over 16 years.

Jonathan works in a variety of mediums and subjects and is admired for his drawing ability especially his coloured pencil and graphite drawings of endangered wildlife.

He is an active campaigner of environmental issues and a member of The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation. In 2006 he published his first book titled Drawing With Coloured Pencil and in 2008, had a second book published titled Drawing And Painting Buildings.

He has work in collections both in the UK and abroad and has exhibited at a number of open exhibition venues including The Mall Galleries, London, West of England Academy, Bristol, Royal Society of Birmingham Artists and The Morphi Gallery, Limassol, Cyprus.

Christine is a collage artist who uses hand-painted paper, which is cut ,applied and layered, employing many hundreds of pieces to produce her unique pictures.

She has held many one-woman exhibitions. both in London and abroad, and has frequently exhibited at the Royal Academy’s summer exhibition. Her book on the art of paper collage is published by Search Press Ltd. Christine is a regular contributor to both The Artist and Leisure Painter and has exhibited at the Glyndebourne 2009 festival. As a member of the Society of Graphic Fine Arts she won the award for a work in colour in 2005.

Jill was an art and design student in 1980, graduating in interior design in 1984, thereafter embarking into the commercial world of architecture and interior design. It wasn’t until her time in Australia during 1999–2000 that her talents as a designer moved to that of an artist, successfully exhibiting in various shows and galleries in Melbourne.

Returning to England, she settled back into interior design but discovered a new medium to excite her as an artist, plaster and paint, exploring all types of subject matter from landscapes and figurative to abstract, the success of which has drawn her away from the interior design world and further into the Arts.

Since 2003 she has exhibited in various shows and galleries throughout Suffolk and Essex.

Other featured artists include Madeleine Beck, David Doughty, Dinah Kester, Maxine Knight, Jon Adkin and gallery proprietor Gary Theobald.
