Golfers get to swing their clubs again

Tuesday, 14th December 2010.

Haverhill golfers have finally been able to get out on the course again after the cold weather interruption.

On Saturday, December 11, the men’s medal was played. The overall winner, James Bowser, scored an impressive nett 67, and as a result, he has had his handicap reduced by two shots to 16.

The full results were as follows: Division One, 1 Michael Bennett 81-11-70; 2 Kevin Eldred 78-8-70; 3 Mark Stanton 81-10-71.

Division Two, 1 James Bowser 85-18-67; 2 Dennis White 88-20-68; 3 Trevor Broomfield 88-15-73.

Division Three, 1 Steve Bush 96-24-72; 2 Peter Mercer 98-22-76; 3 John Fox 107-28-79.

Haverhill had a narrow miss on Sunday, December 12, in the Suffolk Winter Alliance Meeting at Ufford Park, when Eamonn Bareham and Bob Spittle finished in third place.

The pair were one of five teams who returned 37 points in the 4BBB event and finished one shot behind Ufford professional Stuart Robertson and partner Colin Aldous, on a thawed-out course that was playing long, but provided some surprisingly slick putting surfaces.

The runners-up on countback were ex-Haverhill member Rod Gordon and Graham Staff, both representing Bury St Edmunds Golf Club.

The individual professional prize was shared by Stuart Robertson and Waldringfield's Ashley Boother.

The Men’s Daily Mail foursomes was played at Haverhill on Sunday, December 12. Winning with a very commendable score of 36pts, despite the return to wintry conditions on the course, were the pairing of David Pipe and Dan Wilkins.

In second place were Steve Nichols and Paul Borowy with 33pts and in third place Scott Turner and Roger Turner with 32pts.
