Growth deal brings cash for The Epicentre

Tuesday, 8th July 2014.

Haverhill Research Park's innovation centre took a step forward this week with the announcement of Government money being made available to build it.

On Monday the Government announced the first Growth Deals they have agreed to fund with £6billion of investment.

The initial allocations will help support local projects, including those submitted via the Local Enterprise Partnerships' strategic economic plan.

Significant investment has been secured for the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, both of which cover West Suffolk.

Included in both LEP Growth Deals is the creation of the new innovation centre in Haverhill, to be called The Epicentre.

This centre will focus on local strengths in life sciences and advanced manufacturing, supporting business growth in ICT, biotechnology and Agri-Tech sectors. The project has a joint investment of £2million.

The town's MP Matthew Hancock said: “This is fantastic news for the wider local economy, but I am delighted to see that the New Anglia LEP and the Greater Cambridge Peterborough LEP growth plans both support the development of Haverhill in West Suffolk.

"The Haverhill innovation centre will be a great boost for the town, supporting hi-tech local jobs and the growth and expansion of local businesses. It will help keep Haverhill moving forward, increasingly becoming a hi-tech town on the up with more high-end jobs.

I am also pleased that the New Anglia LEP Growth Deal supports the extension of broadband coverage to up to 95 per cent by 2017.

High speed internet connection is fundamental to the development of local businesses and communities. I will continue to fight to have as much of West Suffolk included in the Better Broadband programme as possible.”
