Gym instructors prepare to stride out for marathon effort

Thursday, 29th March 2001.

TWO gym instructors have been limbering up for the London Marathon in order to raise money for charity.
Mandy Newman, 37, and Kim Moss, 40, are both instructors at Haverhill Leisure Centre, and will be doing the 26-mile run in April to collect money for the Rosie Maternity baby care unit, the St John Ambulance and Visually Impaired Children Taking Action (VICTA).
Both women are keen marathon runners and it will be the fourth time Mandy has taken part in the London run and the sixth time Kim has done it.
The pair usually try to raise around £1,000 each for their charities. Mandy will be running for VICTA and Kim for the other two charities, so she is looking to raise a little extra.
Mandy said: "I've got to raise £700 and Kim is looking for the same. We want to raise a couple of thousand and we normally do somehow.
"One year I had a really good year and raised £2,000."
Mandy's biggest sponsors so far have been Steve and Ray Blackman who run Engineering Project Services in Withersfield and donated an undisclosed amount.
To raise extra money, Mandy and Kim will run a cake stall on Saturday, March 31 outside Glassworlds, in the High Street.
