Handbag stolen while owner was in the next room

Monday, 23rd February 2015.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and reminding residents to ensure they secure their homes after a walk-in burglary in Haverhill.

The incident took place at around 6.15pm on Thursday, February 19, at a house in Bartlow Place.

The victims were sitting in the living room when they heard the rear patio door into the kitchen slide open.

On going to investigate, the victim saw a fleeting glimpse of a figure run out through the doors, having stolen a handbag from off the kitchen table.

Police were called and a search of the area was carried out, but the suspect was not located. The only description of the suspect is that they were wearing dark clothing.

Anyone who saw any suspicious persons in the area, or who has any information about this crime, is asked to contact the Bury St Edmunds Priority Crime Team on 101 quoting reference HH/15/361, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Residents are reminded to keep their doors locked at all times, even if at home, and to ensure windows are secured if out or overnight. It is also advised to secure back gardens where possible with suitable fencing and locked gates.
