Havebury raises £10,000 for drugs charity

Thursday, 2nd September 2010.

A massive £10,000 has been raised at an annual charity golf day run by Suffolk affordable homes provider Havebury Housing Partnership.

More than 100 golfers took part in the event, which was held at Thetford Golf Club in aid of drugs charity Focus 12. Each participant, playing in a team of four, played 18 holes which were followed by a two-course buffet, raffle and auction.

Havebury’s new director of operations Philip Sullivan thanked those who took part, including employees, contractors and local businesses.

He said: “Given the current economic climate, we are delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount. Everyone has been so generous with both their time and money for such a well-deserving charity.”

The winning team, the Misfits – made up of Richard Chaplin, Neil Clarke, Robert Grove and Patrick Harris - won a voucher for MyJoys, giving them the chance to custom design a pair of golf shoes.

The money raised will now go to Focus 12, a Bury St Edmunds-based charity which provides drug and alcohol rehabilitation through residential and daycare facilities. Its patrons are Davina McCall and Russell Brand.

Focus 12 chief executive Chip Somers said: “We are absolutely delighted that Havebury has chosen to donate its proceeds to Focus 12. Helping people to deal with drug and alcohol addition is not often a popular cause to support - so we are extremely grateful.

"A donation of this size to an organisation as small as us will make a profound difference.”

Over the last five years, Havebury has raised more than £50,000 for different charities including MS Society, West Suffolk Hospital’s stroke unit and St Nicholas Hospice.

Havebury, which has offices in Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds, is dedicated to serving both the existing and future housing needs of people in West Suffolk and the Cambridge sub-region. A charity and not-for-profit association, it currently manages 6,000 homes.
