Haverhill academy commended at national awards

Thursday, 17th November 2011.

Haverhill's Samuel Ward Academy was a runner-up for an Outstanding Progress Secondary Award at The Education Business Awards ceremony at the Emirates Stadium, London, last week.

The award was sponsored by NEC Display Solutions and presented to the UK Secondary School that has made outstanding progress in the management of its faculties, finances and human resources and can demonstrate an increase in the educational performance of the school.

The winner was Bethnal Green Technology College in London, and commended, along with Samuel Ward, were Ash Green School & Arts College in Coventry, Debden Park High School in Essex, and
Sir John Cass Foundation and Redcoat Church of England Secondary School in London.

The awards in general recognise successful schools and projects that demonstrate how the dedication of teaching and management staff, coupled with sound investment, has delivered better learning environments.

The awards presenter, newsreader Moira Stuart, announced the winners at last Thursday's prestigious event, in 22 categories covering a range of areas in education.

Samuel Ward Academy was commended for ongoing, vigilant management of improvements. Professionalism, curriculum advances, achievement levels and teaching capacities were also highlighted.

The academy's achievement director, Helen Jones, attended the ceremony and said: "We are delighted that Samuel Ward received a commendation for all our achievements. This is a result of hard work and commitment from staff, pupils, parents and governors."
