Haverhill Angling Club news

By Rupert Beynon on Monday, 23rd August 2010.

It is a great sadness to report the death of the largest carp in England, the legend known as Two Tone.

The monster, who lived at Conningbrook Lake at Chilham, near Canterbury, was found dead, believed to be of old age last weekend.

It is believed the fish was around 45 years old and caught less than 50 times in his life. Two Tone, named after his distinctive colouring, was for many the holy grail of fishing.

Recent match results at Long Pond in Clare saw Dave Rees win with a 40lb mixed bag, fishing the pole tight to the island on peg 15 using pellet.

Second was Dave Spencer with 31lb made up of four carp in the last hour, and third was Dave Tobin with 20lb of carp on some of Dave Spencer's borrowed pepperami.

Another match at the small lake at Home Farm, Little Walden, last week also produced some good fish to those favoured by the draw to the car park side with the wind pushing hard into the reeds.

This was won with a fine bag of carp weighing in at 41lb 6oz, by Mike Potter using sweetcorn fished over pellet in the margin on a method feeder.

Second was Pete Griggs, fishing almost under his feet on the pole with 25lb 14oz and third Dave Rees with 23lb 15oz fishing the pole in open water.

The next match is due to be held on Sunday, August 29, at Trev's Lake Head Fen fisheries.
