Haverhill Angling Club news

By Rupert Beynon on Monday, 13th June 2011.

The last two club matches could not have been more different. The first was held on Match Lake Two at the Suffolk Water Park which saw warm but blustery conditions produce good weights of carp from around the lake with a close-fought battle for first and second, and Pete Griggs eventually coming out on top with 54lb using a cage feeder, closely followed by Jason Jeggo with 52lb catching carp in the margins on meat.

Last weekend's match was held on Long Pond at Clare and, with overnight temperatures dropping to four degrees and a wet windy day ahead, it was going to be a struggle.

Only one carp showed all day so a change of tactic was needed early on, and Dave Rees was the man to show matches don't always have to be won with big weights of carp.

His tactic was to use pellet on the pole catching steadily throughout the day with a bag of silvers made up of roach and bream totalling 18lb 10oz, with the same method being used by second-placed Dave Pennycook weighing in 17lb 4oz.

The next match will take place at the floodpark on Sunday, June 26. If you are interested and wish to fish in the friendly matches contact the match secretary, Jason Jeggo, on 07962055307. The draw will take place at 8am in the usual place.
