Haverhill Angling Club news

By Rupert Beynon on Monday, 27th June 2011.

The latest Haverhill Angling club outing took place last Sunday on home waters at the Flood Park.

The day started well with Jason Jeggo toppling over his tackle barrow before he got to his swim - I have the photos if anyone wishes to see.

The day was due to be a hot one and it did not disappoint with most of the larger bream showing early on but, as the sun rose, the bigger fish backed off and the pole fishermen came into their own.

Some of the larger carp did not want to feed and were seen around the lake basking in the sunshine so it was a battle to see how many silver fish could be netted to make up the weights.

On the weigh-in Peter Griggs, when asked what he caught his fish on, only replied 'bait' - so no clues there then - but Dave Pennycook won the day, just beating Rupert Beynon to first place with 19lb 15oz, fishing worm on the cage feeder to the island and caster on the pole at 14 metres, with Rupert catching 19lb 2oz using a method feeder to the island with strawberry flavour pellets on the hook.

Dave Rees took third using the pole and double pinkie on the hook. The next match will take place at Home Farm, Little Walden this Sunday, July 3, draw at 8am.

Anyone who would like to come along to a friendly match please give Jason Jeggo, the match secretary, a call on 07962055307.
