Haverhill Angling Club news

By Rupert Beynon on Tuesday, 17th July 2012.

Thirteen anglers battled it out at the latest Haverhill club match last Sunday at Long Pond in Clare.

At last the wet weather held off for the day and many of the larger carp could be seen cruising around the lake in the sunshine.

Most of the anglers chose to target these by fishing a pole line tight to the lily pads, some with better luck than others with Nick Pluck snapping his pole on one of the larger fish in his swim.

Worm seemed the order of the day with Alan Portway taking first place on peg nine with 19lb 15oz and just 2oz behind with 19lb 3oz was Peter Griggs using the same method on peg 12.

Peter was seen earlier in the match using a sausage for bait, but it was worm that saw him catch the biggest fish of the day at 15lb 15oz.

Nick Pluck came third in peg six using cat meat with a weight of 18lb 5oz.

There will be an open match at Haverhill floodpark on Sunday, July 22, with the draw at 08.30am, fishing 10am till 4 pm. Any one interested please contact Danny Porter on 07595631478 for further details.
