Haverhill Angling Club report

By Rupert Beynon on Monday, 21st March 2011.

At last the first signs of spring are starting to show after what I must say has been a very cold winter.

Most commercial fisheries are starting to produce some good weights as the carp are starting to wake as water temperatures begin to rise.

This was the case for the practice rounds for the teams in the first round of the Van der Enyde Super Cup.

Haverhill Angling Club drew teams from Sudbury and UK power networks with the latter choosing Creeting lakes near Stowmarket as their home water.

Practice weights were coming in over 60lbs but then the wet and cold weather returned, making the match, which took place on the Sunday hard on the day.

The match was fished using a points system and after the final weigh-in Haverhill's eight man team were the winners with 15 points to the other two teams with 17 points.

Peter Griggs was top Haverhill rod of the day catching 20lbs on the feeder with Dave Pennycook 13lb 11oz on the long pole, Richard Richman 13lb 3oz on the feeder and Dave Spencer 13lb 2oz on the pole.

The second round is due to be fished on the May 6 with the draw still to be announced. Haverhill Angling Club AGM will take place this Thursday at 7.45pm at the Vion sports and social club in Kedington.
